How I love just dozing – oh no!
GET UP, GET UP, GET UP, GET UP
Coffee toast and drag a comb across my head out in the street – ten more hours today and I’ve covered rent this week – I’m feeling really tired but I’ve got a strong belief – that hard work will bring success and ultimate relief
Pleasant drizzle help me clear the sleep out of my head, though Morpheus still sings to me of the haven of my bed, look out!
(blithering idiot!)
this cat still lives to kick and scream and fight another day and I’m going to rise beyond it all, no matter what they say I’ve got a start now I finally found a room to let a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step
I get there and they say but they don’t want you today No, they don’t want you today
And my life’s going down the plughole (you won’t put no money away this week) (and you still owe me £200)
I’ve got to pick myself up now, after all they said They might well want me later and if they do they’ll send a text
I’ve got to pick myself up now I just can’t be like this –It’s so hard but I can get through if only I persist But sometimes it just feels like I strive just to exist
The last time I was in a pub got talking to a lad, who said it’s all a big mistake that it all turned out this bad, and everyone’s entitled to their piece of this round world, and this man over a century ago had had the last word, so they up bought up all the books and all the schools and hushed him up,
And the next time that I passed that pub – it wasn’t there anymore
They pulled it down, smashed it to the ground, shrouded it in boarding (hoarding) that you see around town
I wish I could sleep for a while, let me float to –
Let me float to a distant isle, let me catch that feeling, away on the breezing, how I love just dozing . . .
Oh!
And there’s my text, I got to get to next, I gotta scoop up pay, and put a little away, I gotta stand up straight, I gotta run or be late I gotta tick the box, I gotta beat the clocks
I gotta run, I gotta run, I gotta run, I gotta run, I gotta run, I gotta run, I gotta run, I gotta run
