Last Chance Saloon

Come on in

It’s the last chance saloon.  This is the last chance saloon

That fruit machine blew all the fuses in the place

But that handle still gets pulled again and again

Disgusted punters turn away, they’ve always got the blues, ‘cos those lemons keep tumbling in tantalising twos

And three lemons are needed for the jackpot to pay, some say the old landlord took one of the lemons away

Some zombie’s going to croon

Never mind being in tune

But hey!

There’s a party going on

Don’t you feel the party going on?

And the songs are getting better

Don’t call last orders just yet, there’s time for another duet

Another round at least, too soon to end the feast, another spin of the old fruit machine

You’re drunk with success, when you reap the excess,

But I think you’ve had enough now, mate

Don’t call last orders just yet, don’t ring that bell

Look,

Look!

The cellar’s flooded and the fridge is leaking, the carpet’s sticky and the bogs are reeking

That old piano’s missing so many keys, they’ve been pumping those two pedals for a century

The old landlord hid that plan to rewire the house, that would truly give everybody a shout

Haven’t you got a home to go to?

The fruit machines in the saloon are printing money.  Some economists think quantitative easing had an uncertain effect.  The effect was, it disappeared into land value.  The fruit machines are the bankers lending on land value, and lending on the value that they’ve created.  The fruit machines are the economy in general, and three lemons are needed, the three elements of production in classical political economy:  Labour, Land, Capital.  The interaction of these three makes an economy pay for everyone, and all three are needed for the jackpot to pay, but landlordism took one of the lemons away.  Landlords are obviously drunk with success, as they reap the excess, that is,the privatisation of the natural source of public finance.  The effects of this dysfunction are having a major effect on natural systems;  there is flooding; the fridge is leaking – the polar vortex wind system is breaking down, warm air is getting in, cold air leaking out.  The old landlord hid the plans, in that the remedy in classical economics, economics itself, was twisted and subverted to obscure its clear conclusions.
