The Future is Arriving

Another letter from a prophet of doom . . .

The future is arriving, the horizon draws near,  though whether it’s a cliff edge is still not clear

The future is arriving, it’s little discussed, but the future is arriving and it’s either gold or dust

The future is arriving,

as we always knew it would

But somehow never quite felt it could

The future is arriving, and they say it might rain, and who knows what will never be the same again?

The future’s been arriving, that die is cast, it’s been distant come slowly then rushing very fast

The future is coming, but no one knows for sure, at what point do we declare that we’re in a war

The future is arriving, could be heaven or hell. Full of scary monsters and noxious smells

Could be somewhat surprising, better hunker down, or hang on to whatever comes around, as you’re adrift as flotsam on the tides of the changing demands of the miscalculation

we’ve gotta change the calculation?

The future is arriving, could go either way, unless we’re too far immersed in disease and decay

The future is arriving, writ large in the sky. Bright and beautiful, shiny and spry

A new dawn is arising, and all there is to say, you know it’s gonna be alright

In 1306, Edward I made a proclamation banning coal burning in London, probably the first ecological legislation ever.  Warnings from the scientific community have been coming for some time, since 1824, when Joseph Fourier described the greenhouse effect.  By 1970, the oil industry knew from their own research that their product was going to change the planet, and have spent billions since denying this and lobbying against legislation.

Now, here we are.  In some parts of the world, it’s been clear for some time.  Now all can see, it is arriving.
